Huskers Finish 10th in Houston

Houston, Texas - Andrew Wyatt and Neil Dufford each tied for 23rd at the Rice Intercollegiate, leading the Nebraska men's golf team to a 10th place finish on Tuesday.

The Huskers followed up their first and second round scores of 291 with a 296 in the final round, putting their team total at 878 for the 54-hole tournament. This marked their second-best team score in an event this season, just two strokes higher than their 876 total at the Kansas Invitational in September.

New Mexico State won the team title by three shots over Florida Gulf Coast, shooting 853 over three rounds at Westwood Golf Club. Gaston De La Torre of New Mexico State won individual honors by three strokes after his 68 in the final round.

Wyatt and Dufford ended up 12 shots off the pace, finishing with 219 over three rounds. Wyatt carded the best score by a Husker in the final round with a 1-over-par 73, while Dufford added a 4-over-par 76. The tie for 23rd result marked Dufford's best finish this season.

Scott Willman and Brett Nymeyer tied for 41st overall, amassing 222-stroke totals at the par-72, 7,184-yard layout. Nymeyer shot 74 in all three rounds, as Willman produced scores of 75, 73 and 74.

Mike Coatman shot 75 in the final round, putting his total at 225, which earned the Lincoln, Neb., native a tie for 55th finish. Jordan Reinertson, who played as an individual, shot 235 for the tournament and finished in a tie for 77th.

The Huskers return to action on Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif.
