Tallahassee, Fla. – After having the first match of the day against No. 27 Florida State delayed due to cold weather, the No. 42 Nebraska Cornhuskers finished the first day of the Seminole Quad with a record of 1-1.
In the first match, No. 42 Nebraska fell to No. 27 FSU, 4-2.
In singles play, No. 97 Benedikt Lindheim was the first Husker off the court when Florida State’s Connor Smith, 6-0, 7-5, defeated him at the No. 3 spot. At the No. 6 spot, NU’s Sebastian Florcyzk defeated FSU’s Andres Bucaro, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
At the No. 1 spot, FSU’s No. 42 Vahid Mirzadeh took down Nebraska’s Christopher Aumueller, 6-2, 6-3. The fourth match finished, was also the No. 4 spot in the team’s line-ups and FSU’s Blake Davis, 6-0, 7-5, defeated Nebraska’s Eric Sock.
No. 99 Calin Paar (NU), 6-3, 0-6, 7-5, lost to FSU’s No. 37 Clint Bowles at the No. 2 spot in the line-up. In the final match, Nebraska’s Andrew Stenger, 6-3, 6-2, took down FSU’s Anderson Reed.
In the second match of the day, No. 42 Nebraska knocked off the Furman Paladins, 6-1.
The Huskers swept doubles play when their duo of Paar and Robert Schulze defeated Furman’s Sawyer Duncan and Andrew Mello, 8-3, from the No. 1 spot. In the No. 2 spot, NU’s Lindheim and Aumueller took down Furman’s Alex Christ and Joel Cook, 8-4. Also winning 8-4, from the No. 3 spot in the Husker’s double’s lineup was the duo of Florcyzk and Stenger.
In singles play, the Huskers continued to build on their lead when NU’s Florcyzk beat Furman’s Cook, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 6 spot.
At the No. 1 spot, Furman’s Duncan, 7-5, 6-3, defeated NU’s Aumueller.
Playing in the No. 2 spot was Nebraska’s No. 99 Paar who defeated, 6-2, 6-2, Furman’s Christ. No. 97 Lindheim (NU) defeated, 6-2, 6-1, Furman’s Mellow at the No. 3 spot.
NU’s Stenger defeated Furman’s Tyler Droll, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 4 spot. Nebraska’s Tom Blackwell, playing at the No. 5 spot, defeated the Paladin’s Watson Geroge, 6-2, 6-2.
The Huskers will be back on the court Sunday morning when they face the Owls of Florida Atlantic. The match begins at 9 a.m.
