The Nebraska swimming team, in their first action in nearly a month, won the Citrus Classic in Mesa, Arizona. The Huskers finished with a meet-high 173 points, ahead of Cal U and Siena in the field of seven teams.
The Husker swimmers won nine of the meet's 11 events, including the 1000-yard freestyle, where the Huskers took the top-six places. Bailey Pons won the event, followed by Brandie Kavalec, Morgan Flannigan, Mailene Leslie, Riley Seidel and Ashleigh Grammar. Pons also won the 500- and 200-yard freestyle events. She was the Husker's top finisher on Friday.
Hayley Martin won two events on the day in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. Other winners on the day include Meredith Matthies, Rachell McClain and Lexie Halberstadt. The Huskers finished in the top-2 in every event on the day.
The Nebraska swimming and diving team will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Devaney Natatorium at 2 p.m. The Huskers will be taking on conference foe Kansas in the first of three conference duals on the season.
