Tulsa, Okla.-The Nebraska men's tennis team will have two players in the third round of the Qualifying Bracket at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., after Calin Paar and Benedikt Lindheim both won their second round matches on Tuesday, Oct. 5. The pair continued the Huskers solid play at the tournament by defeating both of their opponents in straight sets.
Lindheim (Nebraska) continued his tear through the fall season by taking down Nassim Slilam (Florida) 6-4, 6-4, to collect his eighth victory of the fall. The junior, who qualified for the Qualifying Bracket by being awarded one of the five "Lucky Losers" spots after falling in the finals of the Pre-Qualifying bracket, will take on Viktor Maksimcuk (Louisville) in the third round.
Paar (Nebraska), the No. 49-ranked player in the country, was just as dominant as his fellow Husker defeating Colin Hoover (Texas A&M) 6-1, 6-2. Paar will match up with Dean Jackson (San Diego) in the third round.
"Calin and Benedikt played very well today and are showing what hard work and determination can do," head coach Kerry McDermott said. "Both guys beat very good players today and need to stay focused and determined for tomorrow's matches. I feel good about their matches tomorrow and the sky is the limit for them."
The Huskers lone loss in singles came from No. 61 Christopher Aumueller (Nebraska), after he fell to Grant Ive (Tulsa) 6-4, 6-2.
"Aumueller struggled a little today, but that was a little expected due to the lack of match play he has had because of an injury that he is starting to recover from," McDermott said. "He'll keep working hard to get back."
In doubles action, Lindheim and Andre Stenger took down the No. 41-ranked doubles team in the country Maros Horny and Tommy Laine (Maryland) 8-4 in the first round, but were unable to get by Tim Hewit and Alex Samchev (Auburn) in the second round falling by an 8-3 score.
No. 44 Aumueller and Paar fell in their first round doubles match to Sekout Bangoura Jr. and Billy Federhofer (Florida) in a tight 8-6 battle.
Paar and Lindheim will play their third round matches on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Case Tennis Center. Lindheim will take on Maksimcuk (Louisville) at 9 a.m., while Paar will match up against Jackson (San Diego) at 10:30 a.m. Check back to Huskers.com for more updates on the Nebraska men's tennis team at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Champsionships.
