Lincoln - The Nebraska men's and women's cross country teams combined for 13 selections to the academic All-Big 12 cross country teams announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Seven Husker women and six NU men earned spots among the 147 student-athletes across the conference named to the academic honor squad. Nebraska senior Katie White headlined the Husker list with a perfect 4.0 grade-point - one of just nine student-athletes across the league to post a perfect GPA.
On the women's side, White was joined by fellow Husker first-team selections Blaire Dinsdale, Jessica Furlan, Erica Hamik, Ashley Miller and Jen Webers, along with second-teamer Lara Crofford.
On the men's side, David Adams, Jesse Adams, Todd Gulizia, Ethan Luebbe and Anthony Oberle all earned first-team mention, while Tommy Brinn claimed second-team academic accolades. Jesse Adams and Gulizia both carry GPA's above 3.9, while Oberle's GPA is nearly 3.8.
Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, the men’s cross country academic all-league squad consisted of 57 first-team members combined with 13 on the second team, while the women had 66 first-team recipients and 11 student-athletes on the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better GPA, and the second team is those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Huskers will be in action at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships, which will be hosted by Oklahoma State, on Saturday, Oct. 30. The event begins with the women’s 6K race at 10 a.m., while the men’s 8K race follows at 11 a.m.
