Huskers Wrap Up Play at Central Regionals

Fayetteville, Ark.-The Nebraska women's tennis team wrapped up their third and final day of competition at the USTA-ITA Central Region Championships on Saturday.

In the doubles main draw, Mary Weatherholt and Patricia Veresova pulled off an upset by toppling number the one-seeded pair of Alexandra Kichoutkin and Jo-Anne Karatiana of Tulsa. Unfortunately, the duo then lost to Ana-Maria Constantinescu and Alice Radu of Oklahoma in the quarterfinals.

In the third round of singles, Stefanie Weinstein was defeated by Natalia Pintusava of Minnesota.

The tournament also featured consolation action for the Huskers. In doubles consolation play, Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein defeated  Michelle Farley and Bonny Davidson of Tulsa. Abby Buxton and Maike Zeppernick dropped their consolation match against Jenny Herring and Ceara Howie of Arkansas State. Janine Weinreich and Jennifer Holmberg lost in consolation to Janie Nowland and Biljana Milosheshka of Arkansas State.

In singles qualifying consolation play, Chelsea Finnegan defeated Galina Semenova of Oklahoma State, while Abby Buxton took down Ceara Howey of Arkansas State.

In the singles main draw consolation bracket, Buxton was defeated by Veronika Blaskova of Wichita State and Zeppernick fell at the hands of Whitney Ritchie of Oklahoma.
