The Nebraska women's tennis team will compete in the USTA-ITA Central Region Championship this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.
The tournament will run from Oct. 21-25 and serves as both the regional individual championship and qualifying for the ITA National Indoors in November.
Representing Nebraska in the 64-person singles qualifying draw will be senior Abby Buxton, junior Jennifer Holmberg, sophomore Chelsea Finnegan and freshman Maike Zeppernick. Holmberg is seeded No. 11 in the draw and will receive a bye. Buxton will face Jenny Herring of Arkansas State University, while Finnegan will compete against Annemijn Koenen of the University of Missouri. Zeppernick will square off against Amy Unzicker of Western Illinois University.
Competitors in the qualifying draw must win two rounds to advance. Those remaining 16 competitors will then be seeded into the main draw bracket.
Competing in the singles main draw will be junior Madeleine Geibert and sophomores Patricia Veresova, Janine Weinreich and Stefanie Weinstein. The seedings and draws for that bracket have not yet been released.
"We're excited to get the weekend off to a good start tomorrow with qualifying," said Assistant Coach Hayden Perez. "This is an event where we have the entire team here, so we're very excited about that. We hope compete hard and represent Nebraska in a positive manner."
