Yost Leads White to 12-2 Series Victory Over Red

Lincoln - The White team scored 10 runs in the first three innings and rode the arm of pitcher Sean Yost on their way to a 12-2 series-clinching victory over the Red on Friday afternoon at Hawks Field. Yost shut out the Red bats through six innings and gave up only two hits while striking out six. Following a 5-3 victory Thursday afternoon, the White has won the 2010 Red-White Series with the final game scheduled for Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Yost, a native of Lincoln, Neb., allowed just four runners to reach base and retired the minimum in the first, fourth and fifth innings. As Yost was silencing the Red bats, his offense pounded out 14 hits in the first six innings to take a commanding 12-0 lead. Kash Kalkowski and Kurt Farmer each had three hits to lead the White bats, while Samuel Stucky, Patric Tolentino and Nicholas Thune all produced two hits.

Chad Christensen and Kalkowski began the scoring outburst with early hits to start a three-run first inning. Both came around to score on RBIs from Tolentino and Miller, while Tolentino scored on a Farmer RBI single.

After taking a 3-0 lead, the White squad broke the game open with a seven-run third inning highlighted by three RBI singles from Farmer, Brian Wuest and Stucky. Farmer went on to turn in his third RBI of the game when the White extended its lead to 12-0 with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. The Columbus, Neb., native enjoyed another successful day at the plate after a 2-for-3 game in the White's 5-3 win on Thursday afternoon.

Yost was relieved by a trio of pitchers in the final three innings, as Khris Tate, Nate Kerkhoff and Chris Williams each threw one inning to maintain the lead.

The Red team put up its first run of the game in the eighth inning on a Cory Burleson sacrifice fly following a one-double from Kale Kiser. They added a final run in the ninth on a fielder's choice ground ball but could not close the margin any further. The Red squad finished with five hits for the second straight day, while the White had 16.

The Huskers will conclude fall practice with the final game of the Red-White Series on Saturday morning at Hawks Field at 9 a.m. Admission is free.
