2011 Outlook:
Senior Patric Tolentino (pronounced TOE-len-tino) was a strong addition to the program last year, as he started 31 games for the Huskers behind the plate • Will most likely see a similar role this spring, splitting catching duties with junior Cory Burleson while also being one of the team’s primary designated hitters • Ended last season on a six-game hitting streak • Hit .333 with two RBIs during the Red-White Series • Started 33-of-35 games while playing for Santa Barbara in the California Collegiate League over the summer • Hit .314 with 18 RBIs for the Foresters and caught for NU teammate Tom Lemke • Earned a spot in the California Collegiate All-Star Game • Comes from an athletic background, as his father started on Texas’ 1983 CWS championship team and played in the major leagues.

2010: Tolentino split time behind the plate with Cory Burleson, hitting .248 with 13 RBIs in 40 contests • Finished the year on a six-game hitting streak, hitting .388 (7-for-18) with six RBIs • Started once against Texas Tech, going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in NU’s 8-6 win on May 22  • Went 1-for-3 with an RBI in his lone start at Missouri on May 15 • Drove in a career-high three runs, going 1-for-3 in his lone start against Southeast Missouri State on May 8 • Had a solid offensive weekend at Baylor, going 2-for-6 with a double in two starts • Saw action in all three games against Kansas, going 2-for-6 with an RBI, as he had two hits and a sacrifice in the series opener on April 16  • Was 2-for-12 with a double in the series at No. 20 Kansas State • Was 1-for-2 off the bench against North Dakota on March 30 • Drove in a pair of runs, as he went 1-for-3 against No. 12 Oklahoma on March 28 • Came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and threw out a runner against Northern Colorado on March 23  • Was 2-for-3 with a run scored against Nebraska-Kearney on March 10 • Went 2-for-6 with a pinch-hit single to help Nebraska rally from a three-run deficit in the series finale on March 6 • Hit .375 (3-for-8) at the Rice Invitational, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before driving in a pair of runs in NU’s 4-3 loss to No. 9 Rice • Started three games at Fresno State, going 2-for-8 while also throwing out three runners.

Before Nebraska: Tolentino starred behind the plate for two seasons at Redlands (Okla.) Community College for Coach Matt Newgent • Garnered second-team NJCAA All-America honors in 2009, hitting .435 with 11 homers and 62 RBIs, as he struck out just 11 times all season • Hit .413 with seven homers and 43 RBIs as a freshman • Spent the summer playing for the Santa Barbara Foresters and Coach Bill Pintard, hitting .238 with 17 RBIs in 35 contests in the wood-bat league • Selected to the California Collegiate League All-Star Game in 2009, as he threw out nearly 45 percent of base runners • Helped Santa Barbara to a fourth-place showing at the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan. • Played all nine positions in a game for the Santa Barbara Foresters during the summer of 2009 • Was an all-state selection at Lookeba-Sickles High School for Coach Darly Scales, helping the school win a state title in 2006 • Turned in his best performance during the state championship game, going 3-for-4 with a double and a homer, while also going six innings for the win.

Personal: Born on July 18, 1989, in Tucson, Ariz. • Parents are Stacy McDowell and Jose Tolentino • Has two younger sisters (Rachel McDowell and Isabelle) and four bothers (Eric, Austin McDowell, Colter McDowell and Milan) • Majored in business administration and earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in December of 2012 • His father, Jose, was an All-SWC first baseman on Texas’ 1983 national title team, hitting .347-12-73 and reached the Major Leagues with the Houston Astros in 1991 • Jose also served as an assistant coach for the Mexican National Team in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
