Lincoln - Left-handed pitcher Logan Ehlers struck out 10 batters in 6 innings as the Red team took a 2-0 lead before Chad Christensen's 3-for-5 day led a White comeback as the teams tied the final game of the Red-White Series, 2-2, on Saturday morning at Hawks Field.
Ehlers gave up just one run and four hits in his second start, as the left-hander nicely rebounded from Friday's start when he lasted only 0.2 innings. The Nebraska City native struck out 10 of 23 batters, including eight in the first three innings alone, before giving up an unearned run in the sixth.
Ehlers' performance helped the Red team gain a 2-0 lead through five innings on RBI singles in the second and fourth from Tanner Krietemeier and Cory Burleson. Krietemeier and Burleson each had two hits in the game, as the Red squad attempted to salvage the final game of the series after dropping the first two contests.
After the White cut the deficit in half in the sixth (2-1), Brian Wuest forced an extra inning with his RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to score Nick Miller, who hit a leadoff double to left-center field. Neither team could push across a run in the 10th inning as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Following his 3-for-5 game Saturday, Christensen finished the Red-White Series with a .333 average (5-for-15). Kurt Farmer also added a hit and ended the week as the Red's top hitter by producing a .500 average (6-for-12). Burleson was the White's top performer at the plate as he was 4-for-8 (.500) in the three-game series.
Nebraska now looks to the 2011 season, which begins in just over four months. The season opener is Feb. 18 at Texas State, while the first home game is set for March 2 against Nebraska-Kearney. The Huskers will play 32 home games next spring, including an early series against 2010 NCAA runner-up UCLA from March 4 to 6.
