Huskers Stop Sooners for 19th Win

Norman, Okla. - The No. 40 Nebraska women's tennis team beat the No. 37 Oklahoma Sooners 6-1 on Friday afternoon in Norman, Okla. The Huskers improved to 8-2 in the conference and 19-4 overall, tying the NU record for wins in a season.

The Huskers started off the match by taking the doubles point, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. NU's Mary Weatherholt and Jennifer Holmberg improved to 9-1 in Big 12 play at No. 3 doubles with an 8-6 win.

The Huskers wasted no time in clinching the match, winning the first three completed singles matches, including Janine Weinreich's 6-2, 6-3 win over Kristina Radan at No. 5 singles to give the Huskers their fourth point. NU got wins from Madeleine Geibert at No. 1 singles over Ana-Maria Constantinescu, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year.

The Sooners won at No. 4 singles in a third set supertiebreaker to earn a point, keeping the Huskers from completing the sweep.

Nebraska finishes its regular season on Saturday against No. 57 Oklahoma State. The Huskers have a chance to reach 20 victories in a season for the first time in school history.
