Huskers Sweep Wildcats

Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team improved to 14-2 on the year with a 7-0 sweep over Kansas State on Friday afternoon at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Huskers also ran their Big 12 record to 3-0 with the win over the Wildcats, and have swept all three Big 12 opponents 7-0.

Nebraska once again got off to a good start, winning the doubles point for the fifth consecutive match. The Huskers had 8-3 victories at both the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, while NU win 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. The Huskers took a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Madeleine Geibert made quick work of her opponent at No. 2 singles, beating KSU's Nina Sertic 6-0, 6-0 to give the Huskers their first singles point. Jennifer Holmberg made it 3-0 Nebraska shortly after with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Petra Chuda.

Stefanie Weinstein, Wiveca Swarting and Mary Weatherholt finished their matches within minutes of each other, each winning in straight sets to extend the Husker lead to 6-0. That left No. 5 singles as the only remaining match of the day, which NU's Janine Weinreich won in a tightly contested battle, 7-6 (6) 6-3, finishing the sweep for the Huskers.

The Huskers head to Lawrence, Kan., for their first Big 12 road match against Kansas on Sunday. Nebraska will be looking to notch its fourth Big 12 win of the season and 15th win overall against the Jayhawks.
