Huskers Top Tigers, 7-0

Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team defeated the Missouri Tigers 7-0 on Sunday morning at the Nebraska Tennis Center for their second consecutive sweep over a Big 12 opponent. The Huskers improved to 12-1 on the year, including 2-0 in Big 12 play. It was the final match in Nebraska's 13-match homestand to start the year, as its only loss during the stretch came to nationally-ranked Tulsa.

The Huskers pulled away late in their doubles matches, as all three started off tight before Nebraska took over. The Huskers ended up winning all three doubles matches comfortably, including an 8-3 victory at the No. 1 spot for Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein.

Geibert cruised in her singles match, winning her 21st singles match of the year with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over MU's Jamie Mera to make it 2-0 in favor of the Huskers. Jennifer Holmberg won for the 12th time this spring with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles to extend Nebraska's lead to 3-0. NU's Mary Weatherholt won in straight sets at No. 1 singles to clinch the NU team victory.

Wiveca Swarting won her match at No. 3 singles in straight sets, 6-3,6-3, to give the Huskers a 5-0 lead. It was Swarting's 82nd career singles win, which moves her into fourth place on the all-time NU list, and her 12th win of the spring season, which ties her with Holmberg for the team lead.

The remaining two matches were pushed to three sets, but the Huskers came out on top in both, as Weinstein and Janine Weinreich each won their third set to complete the NU sweep.

The Huskers hit the road for the first time this season next week, as it travels to California for a pair of matches against Long Beach State and UC-Irvine. Nebraska will return home on March 26 with another Big 12 match against Kansas State.
