Huskers Sweep Buffaloes in Big 12 Opener

Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 victory over No. 52 Colorado in its first Big 12 match of the season on Friday afternoon at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Huskers improved to 11-1 overall on the year, while Colorado dropped to 7-4.

The Huskers got off to a fast start, cruising to victories in all three doubles matches, including an 8-2 victory at the No. 1 spot by Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein. The Huskers took a 1-0 lead heading into singles and never looked back.

Janine Weinreich got the Huskers on the board first in singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles over Madie Kern. Mary Weatherholt made it 3-0 Nebraska with an identical 6-1, 6-3 win over Melisa Esposito at the No. 1 spot.

Jennifer Holmberg clinched the victory for Nebraska with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, giving the Huskers their fourth point and the team victory. Geibert, Weinstein and Wiveca Swarting also earned wins for the Huskers, finishing out the 7-0 sweep.

The Huskers will square off with Missouri on Sunday as it continues Big 12 play. First serve for the match against the Tigers is set for Noon at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
