Lincoln ? On Tuesday, March 9 the USTFCCCA announced that Nebraska Head Track and Field Coach Gary Pepin has been named the 2010 USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Women’s Indoor Head Coach of the Year. The honor marks the fifth time in Pepin’s career that he has been named Midwest Regional Head Coach of the Year, as he previous won the men’s and women’s indoor award in 2005 and the men’s outdoor award in 2005 and 2009.
This weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships Pepin will be busy, as he will be personally coaching seven athletes in the jumps. Highlighting Pepin’s group are four-time All-American high jumper Epley Bullock, defending long jump national champion Nicholas Gordon and four-time NCAA qualifier Paul Hamilton, who enters the meet tied for the top collegiate high jump in the country this season at 7-5.
The all-time winningest track and field coach in the history of the Big 12 and the former Big Eight Conference, Pepin is in his 30th season at NU and his 27th as head coach of the both the men’s and women’s teams. During his time at Nebraska, Pepin has coached 56 national champions, 451 All-Americans and 440 conference champions.
The USTFCCCA honors the top track and field athletes along with the top head coaches and assistant coaches in nine Division I regions. A total of 72 men’s and women’s student-athletes and coaches were recognized this year.
