Huskers Defeat Rams for 10-0 Start

Lincoln, Neb.-- The No. 48 Nebraska women's tennis team defeated Colorado State, 6-1, on Friday, Feb. 26, at the Nebraska Tennis Center for its tenth consecutive victory to open the year. This season marks the third straight year the Huskers have started with at least a 10-0 record. NU wasted no time jumping on the Rams by winning all three doubles matches and carried that momentum into the singles play where they won at every position except for the No. 6 spot.

In doubles, Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein (NU) defeated Laura Neal and Caitlin Fluegge (CSU) 8-4 at the No. 1 spot to get NU's first victory of the night. At the No. 2 position, Wiveca Swarting and Janine Weinreich (NU) battled back and forth with Tori Arnerson and Melissa Holzinger (CSU) before pulling away with the match by the score of 8-3. After falling behind early to Lauren Mulhern and Veronika Wojakowska (CSU) 4-1, NU's No. 3 doubles pair Jennifer Holmberg and Abby Buxton (NU) fought back to take the match 9-7.

In singles, Swarting (NU) was the first Husker to tally a victory for the Huskers after she cruised by Arneson (CSU) 6-0, 6-1, to give NU a 2-0 lead in the team score. Weinstein (NU) and Holmberg (NU) both followed Swarting's victory with their own dominating performances at the No. 3 and 4 spots, respectively. Weinstein took down Fluegge (CSU) 6-1, 6-2, while Holmberg defeated Wojakowska (CSU) 6-2, 6-3. At the No. 5 spot, Weinreich also won in convincing fashion over Mulhern (CSU) 6-1, 7-5. The best match of the day came at the No. 1 spot where Geibert (NU) won in three sets over Neal (CSU) for NU's sixth and final point. After splitting the first two sets, Geibert was able to win the third set tiebreaker and the match 6-3, 6-7, 1-0.

The Huskers lone loss came at the No. 6 spot where Buxton (NU) fell to Holzinger (CSU) at the No. 6 spot.

The Huskers return to action on Sunday, Feb. 28, when they take on the No. 43 Tulsa Hurricanes at the Nebraska Tennis Center. First serve is set for 10:30 a.m.
