Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team improved to 9-0 on the year with a 7-0 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers earned their third consecutive sweep with the victory over Eagles.
The Huskers started off the match by sweeping all three doubles matches, including Mary Weatherholt and Janine Weinreich's 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. It was the duo's third straight win at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Madeleine Geibert won her team-leading 17th match of the year, including her seventh this spring, when she beat EMU's Julia Breuss 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 1 singles spot to make it 2-0 Nebraska. Weatherholt improved her spring record to 9-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Miriam Westerink to extend the NU lead to 3-0. Wiveca Swarting clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
Also earning singles wins for the Huskers on the day were Stefanie Weinstein (No. 4), Jennifer Holmberg (No. 5) and Janine Weinreich (No. 6).
Nebraska's match against Northern Iowa, originally scheduled to be at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, has been canceled due to severe weather. The UNI squad was unable to make the trip to Lincoln due to the inclement weather.
The Huskers have a pair of matches next weekend, against Colorado State on Feb. 26 and nationally ranked Tulsa on Feb. 28.
