Houston - Led by Brandon Crick's final-round 70 and tie-for-third finish, the Nebraska men's golf team finished in fifth place at the Rice Intercollegiate at Westwood Golf Club on Tuesday. The Huskers totaled a final-round 302 to finish at 923.
Scores were lower across the board on Tuesday, yet Crick's two-under-par 70 was the second-best score posted in the tournament. Crick finished with a seven-over-par 223.
Brett Nymeyer capped his steady tournament off with a 77 and a total of 231, good for a tie for 22nd. Mike Coatman slipped into a tie for 31st at 232 after a final-round 80, while Scott Willman moved into a tie for 58th at 241 after a final-round 75. Andrew Wyatt rounded out the five-man rotation in a tie for 67th at 245.
Neil Dufford, competing as an individual, climbed 15 spots into a tie for 38th after a final-round 73 left him with a 234 total.
Rice won its own tournament by 19 strokes with an 886 team score. The Owls' Christopher Brown took medalist honors with an even-par 216 total.
The Huskers continue their spring season at the South Florida Invitational, March 5-7.
