Huskers Notch Second Sweep of Day

Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team earned its second sweep of the day as it defeated the Drake Bulldogs 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The win came just hours after the Huskers beat Air Force 7-0 earlier that morning, which gave Head Coach Scott Jacobson his 250th career victory. NU improved to 8-0 on the year with the win.

The Huskers breezed through their doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. Jennifer Holmberg and Wiveca Swarting swept their opponent 8-0 at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 1 and 3 doubles teams for Nebraska each won by a score of 8-1.

Swarting carried the momentum from her doubles match into singles play, sweeping Drake's Ali Patterson at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-0, making in 2-0 Nebraska. Stefanie Weinstein followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of her own at No. 4 singles to increase the NU lead to 3-0. Abby Buxton clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

Holmberg, Mary Weatherholt and Madeleine Geibert also won their singles matches to account for the final three Nebraska points.

The Huskers have two matches next Saturday, Feb. 20, as they take on Northern Iowa at 10 a.m. and Eastern Michigan at 3:30 p.m.
