Huskers Upend Cowgirls

Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 5-2 win over Wyoming on Sunday morning at the Nebraska Tennis Center. Head Coach Scott Jacobson earned his 249th career victory as the Huskers remained perfect on the year.

The doubles matches were all close and competitive, but the Huskers rallied to take two of the three and win the doubles point. NU's Jennifer Holmberg and Wiveca Swarting broke a 5-5 tie at the No. 2 spot, winning the next three games to take the match 8-5. Wyoming evened things up shortly after with a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles match was tied at 7-7, but Nebraska's Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein won the final two games and took the match 9-7, giving the Huskers a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

The Huskers put the match away early in singles play, as Geibert, Holmberg and Mary Weatherholt earned straight-set victories within minutes of each other to give Nebraska 4 team points, clinching the team victory. Wyoming, however, was up a set in the remaining three matches, and went on to win two of those three matches, making up the final score of 5-2.

Jacobson will search for his 250th victory next weekend as the Huskers have two matches in one day, taking on both Air Force and Drake on Saturday, Feb. 13. First serve for the Air Force match is at 9 a.m., while the Drake match starts at 3 p.m.
