Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team defeated the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Huskers improved to 5-0 on the year, while UALR snapped a four-match winning streak and fell to 4-3.
The Huskers were only able to field two doubles teams, but it wasn't a problem for the two to win their matches and secure the doubles point for Nebraska. Wiveca Swarting and Mary Weatherholt teamed up for an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 spot, while Madeleine Geibert and Jennifer Holmberg cruised to an 8-1 win at the No. 2 spot.
Nebraska won the first three completed singles matches, taking a 4-0 lead and clinching the team victory. Weatherholt, Swarting and Holmberg all won in straight sets. Geibert extended the lead with a straight set victory of her own, making it 5-0 NU. The Trojans claimed two points by winning the final two matches of the day at Nos 5 and 6 singles.
The Huskers will look for their sixth straight victory when they take on Wyoming on Super Bowl Sunday. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
