Brester Earns 100th Win as Huskers Fall at No. 18 Oregon State

Corvallis, Ore. - Senior Craig Brester solidified his name in the school record books as he became the 17th Husker to win 100 matches in program history, although the Nebraska wrestling team fell in the team race by a 32-7 margin at No. 18 Oregon State on Sunday afternoon in Corvallis, Ore.

Brester recorded the milestone victory in style, tallying three takedowns in the first period en route to a 10-2 major decision win over Chad Hanke. After setting the tone in the opening frame, Brester went to work on Hanke to accumulate nearly four minutes of riding time through the match in a dominant effort. The former walk-on from Howells, Neb., holds a 100-18 record during his career with a 21-0 mark in his senior season.

Prior to Brester's win, redshirt freshman Josh Ihnen (184) put the Huskers on the board in the fourth match of the dual, powering over Ty Vinson in an 8-2 decision. Ihnen registered a takedown and a two-point near fall in the first period to build a 4-0 lead, before adding an escape, takedown and riding time in the final four minutes for the 8-2 win.

Oregon State had taken an early 10-0 lead with three wins to begin the dual, but the back-to-back victories from Brester and Ihnen closed the margin to 10-7. The OSU run included an upset at 174 pounds, where senior Stephen Dwyer suffered just his third loss of the season in a 2-1 decision to No. 11 Colby Covington. Neither wrestler scored on a takedown, as each had an escape before Covington gained the deciding point on an illegal hold in the third period. Dwyer's loss drops him to 17-3 on the season.

Nebraska will begin the conference season this week inside the friendly confines of the NU Coliseum on Friday, Jan. 29, as the Huskers meet Missouri at 7 p.m. The Big 12 opener will be televised statewide on NET Television.
