Featured Husker of the Week: Katie Kostal

Katie Kostal is a sophomore on the Nebraska rifle squad this season. As a freshman, Kostal shot a career-best 582 in smallbore at the GARC Championships and was named to the All-GARC smallbore first team and second team overall. This fall, Kostal holds a 570.11 average in smallbore and a 579.11 average in air rifle, including a career-best 587 against NC State on Oct. 17.

When did you first get interested in rifle and who got you started?
"I was 11 years old when I first started and my best friend at the time get me interested in it."

What is your favorite rifle memory growing up?
"The time I was the youngest one on my team and beat all of my older teammates."

Favorite discipline, smallbore or air rifle?
"Smallbore."

Interests besides rifle?
"Softball, hockey and watching football."

Any superstitions or routines before shooting?
"I try to always listen to a really upbeat song on my iPod before I start!"

Favorite TV show?
"One Tree Hill."

Favorite movie?
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

Favorite musical artists?
"Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood."

Favorite restaraunt?
"Buffalo Wild Wings."

Thing I miss most about my hometown?
"Being close to my family and friends."
