Bendheim, Aumueller March Into Quarterfinals

Tulsa, Okla.--- David Bendheim (Neb.) and Christopher Aumueller (Neb.) both won two matches on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the ITA Central Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The Huskers entered the day with five singles players and two doubles teams who were playing for the chance to advance to the semifinals.

In the second round of singles play, Bendheim defeated James Seagraves (Tulsa) 7-5, 7-6, while Aumueller took down Matt Walters (Ark.) in convincing fashion 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the third round which was played later in the day. Calin Paar also was victorious in the second round by beating Jake Hendrie (Saint Louis) 6-4, 6-3. Francois Van Impe and Benedikt Lindheim's tournament run were ended in the second round.

Aumueller and Bendheim carried the momentum into the third round as they both won in straight sets over their opponents. Bendheim defeated Mauricio Ballivian (Drake) 7-5, 6-3, and Aumueller beat Dmitry Lebedev (Ark) to advance to the quarterfinal round Sunday. Paar was upended by Chris Nott (Ark.) in a tough three set match 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.

In doubles play, Aumueller and Lindheim defeated Will Vasos and Tommy McGeorge (Iowa) 8-4 to advance to the semifinals. The sophomore tandem will take on Philip Stephens and Ashley Watling (Tulsa) for a spot in the finals of the main draw.

Play will resume Sunday at 10 a.m. with the singles quarterfinals and semifinals rounds, along with the semifinal round in the doubles bracket. Full results and tomorrow's matches are listed below.
