Geibert Advances to Quarterfinals in Norman

Norman, Okla. - Sophomore Madeleine Geibert advanced to the quarterfinals of the Singles Main Draw at the Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships on Friday afternoon in Norman, Okla. Geibert defeated Tulsa's Ewa Szatkowska, 6-4, 6-1, to advance to the final eight.

Geibert also made it to the quarterfinals in the Doubles Main Draw, as she and freshman Stefanie Weinstein teamed up to beat Kristina Radan and Brittany Parks of Oklahoma, 8-6.

Senior Wiveca Swarting fell short in her bid to repeat as singles champion at the ITA Central Regionals, as she lost in the round of 16 to Tulsa's JoAnne Karaitiana. Swarting and sophomore Jennifer Holmberg were also knocked out of the Doubles bracket in a close and competitive match.

"This was another solid day for the Huskers," NU Assistant Coach Hayden Perez said. "The kids competed hard on every court.  Everyone improved on day two and Coach Jacobson and I are proud of the entire group.

"Madeleine played an impressive singles match and looked in good form.  Wiveca is on her way back from a long lay off after an injury and showed us she is on the right track back.  Both doubles teams played well and faced some very tough competition, and we are better by competing in these matches."

Geibert will continue her run through the singles bracket on Saturday as the quarterfinal and semifinal matches will both be played during the day. The singles final will be played on Sunday.
