The Nebraska rifle team opened its season Friday with a 4,629-4,614 victory over the Air Force Falcons at the NU Rifle Range. NU's score of 4,629 is the best for the program since Feb. 3, 2008.
Ryann McGough and Christine Costello led the Huskers in the victory with combined scores of 1,162 and 1,161, respectively. Amanda Jeffries also competed in both disciplines, earning a 1,154 total.
Janine Dutton scored a 584 in air rifle in her first collegiate competition, while Katie Kostal capped off the team scoring with a 568 in smallbore.
"I am very happy with how our first match ended up. We had some solid scores and were consistent as a team," Head Coach Morgan Hicks said. "It was good to see that we were not nervous going into this match but excited to finally compete."
Nebraska will take on defending national champion West Virginia on Sunday at the NU Rifle Range.
