Huskers Conclude Play at Virginia Ranked Plus One Invitational

Charlottesville, Va. --- Calin Paar (Neb.) won his second match of the weekend and Christopher Aumueller (Neb.) gave the ninth ranked player in the nation all he could handle on Sunday as the Huskers concluded play at the Virginia Ranked Plus One Invitational. 

In the A-1 singles bracket, Paar defated Vincente Joli (BSU) 6-3, 1-6, 10-2, to work his way up to the fifth place match.  Due to the Huskers travel schedule, Paar was unable to participate in the fifth place match against Steve Forman (Wake). On the weekend, Paar finished with a 2-1 singles record.

In the A-2 singles bracket, Aumueller's tournament run was halted by No. 9 Sanam Singh (UVA) in the semifinals. Aumueller was able to take the first set from Singh, but could not pull out the victory falling 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. Aumueller recorded a 2-1 singles record on the weekend. Head coach Kerry McDermott was pleased with the way Aumueller and the Huskers played over the weekend.

"I thought we had a really good weekend," McDermott said. "I liked the way we competed throughout the weekend and I think we proved to ourselves that we can play with some of the best players in the nation."

Before reaching the consolation finals in the A-4 bracket, Benedikt Lindheim (Neb.) defeated No. 100 Tobias Fanselow (ODU) 4-6, 6-4, 10-6, and Brad Cox (Kentucky).  Lindheim was not able to play his finals match against Lachlan Ferguson (Ind.) because of the Huskers travel schedule.

Complete results from this weekend's tournament are listed below. The Huskers return to action on Friday, Oct. 2, when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., for the All-American Championships.
