Minneapolis, Minn. - Nebraska's Abby Buxton took home the title in the Wild Singles Flight with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Eastern Michigan's Marcela Rivero at the Minnesota Invitational on Sunday. Buxton went 4-0 in the tournament on her way to a victory, winning each match in straight sets.
Buxton wasn't the only Husker taking home a title, as the doubles team of Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein won the Timberwolves Doubles Flight championship, beating Minnesota's Alessandra Ferrazzi and Tijana Kopricova 8-6. The duo went 3-0 overall at the Invitational.
Geibert also won the third-place match in the Vikings Singles Flight, beating Buffalo's Denise Harijanto 6-1, 6-4. Weinstein also finished her singles play with a win in the Vikings Flight, beating Buffalo's Diana Popescu 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (1) in a consolation bracket.
It was another successful weekend for the Huskers after performing well at their first fall tournament of the season last weekend at the Midland Invitational. Nebraska is in action again starting next weekend for the pre-qualifying stages of the Riviera All-American Tournament in Los Angeles, Calif.
