Buxton Advances to Finals in Minnesota Invitational

Minneapolis, Minn. - Nebraska's Abby Buxton advanced to the finals of the Wild Singles Flight to highlight Husker action at the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis on Saturday afternoon. Buxton defeated two opponents to reach the finals, where she will face Marcela Rivero of Eastern Michigan on Sunday.

Buxton beat Buffalo's Diana Toia, 6-0, 6-3, then beat Northern Iowa's Jessica Kunzelmann, 7-6 (7), 6-3, in the semifinals to advance to the finals. It was her second and third singles win of the tournament.

In the Vikings Singles Flight, Madeleine Geibert advanced to the semifinals with a win over Iowa's Lynne Poggensee-Wei, 6-2, 6-4. She fell short in the semis however, losing to Minnesota's Tijana Koprivica 6-2, 6-2. Geibert will play in the third-place match in the Vikings Flight on Sunday against Buffalo's Denise Harijanto.

Also in action tomorrow will be the doubles team of Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein, who will play in the finals of the Timberwolves Doubles Flight against Minnesota's Alessandra Ferrazzi and Tijana Kopricova.
