Huskers Open Play at UVa Ranked Plus One Invitational

Charlottesville, Va.--- The Nebraska men's tennis team opened play at the second annual UVa Ranked Plus One Invitational on Friday at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. Four Huskers are competing in a singles field that features 31 nationally ranked players including sophomore Christopher Aumueller (Neb.), who is ranked at No. 59 in the country.

After dropping the first set of his match, Aumueller stormed back to take the final two sets from Alejandro Calligari (Lou.) and advance to second round in the A-2 singles bracket 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. The most impressive performance for the Huskers came from junior Calin Paar. Playing in the A-1 singles bracket, Paar took down No. 70 Eric Quigley (Kentucky) 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the second round. Paar will face off against No. 29 Reid Carelton (Duke) on Saturday.

In the A-3 singles bracket, Francois Van Impe (Neb.) was defeated by No. 56 Lee Singer (UVA) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Benedikt Lindheim (Neb.) was beaten by No. 58 Jon Peers (Mid. Tenn.) 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the A-4 bracket. Both Van Impe and Lindheim will continue play in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

In doubles, Aumeuller and Lindheim (Neb.) defeated Alvarado and Rousel (S. Miss.) 8-5 in the A-3 doubles bracket.  In the A-1 doubles bracket, Paar and Van Impe were defeated by the No. 1 rated doubles team in the nation Smith and Sandgren (Tenn.) 8-1.
