Calberry, Mickelson Earn All-NTCA Academic Honors

Nebraska freshmen bowlers Valerie Calberry and Kristina Mickelson were honored on Tuesday by the National Ten Pin Coaches Association for their academic achievements over the 2008-09 academic year.

Calberry, a nutrition, exercise and health sciences major, was one of five bowlers named to the Academic All-NTCA first team. She also recently earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for her hard work in the classroom. In addition, Calberry was a solid competitor for the 2008-09 NU bowling team, as she helped the Huskers to their third NCAA bowling title. She finished the season with third-team NTCA All-America honors.

Mickelson, a Bellevue, Neb., native, was also named to the Academic All-NTCA team for her academic success. Although she did not compete in any regular season tournaments for Nebraska, she earned Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades for the spring semester.

A total of 97 student-athletes from 27 colleges were named to the National Ten Pin Coaches Association 2009 All-Academic Team. Student-athletes named to the team were required to achieve a minimum grade-point average of 3.40 for the 2008-09 academic year. First, second and third-team distinction was accorded based upon the NTCA post-season All-America voting.
