Huskers Place 12 on Big 12 Honor Roll

The Nebraska softball team placed 12 players on the 2009 Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll, including two players who posted perfect 4.0 grade-point averages for the semester. Overall, a player must have posted at least a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for the honor roll.

Robin Mackin and Nikki Haget not only posted perfect 4.0 GPAs for the semester, but both players also have cumulative 4.0 GPAs. Also highlighting the list were seven Huskers who continued streaks of being selected to the honor roll in every semester of their college career.

Molly Hill and Meghan Mullin have been selected to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of their eight semesters, while Julie Brechtel and Heidi Foland both earned their fourth appearances on the list. Haget and classmate Madison Drake both completed their freshman season by earning a spot on the honor roll in each of their first two semesters, while Mackin made the list in her first semester at Nebraska.

Other repeat honor roll selections included Crystal Carwile (fourth selection), Alex Hupp (third), Haley Long (fourth), Brittany Pascale (fourth) and Darcy Rutherford (second).

The releasing of the spring honor roll capped a terrific academic year for the Husker softball team. Hill was named a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American this year, increasing Nebraska's nation-leading softball total to 26 academic All-Americans. On the conference level, seven Huskers earned academic All-Big 12 honors, the most at Nebraska in a decade. Six of those honorees were first-team selections.

Nebraska was successful on the field as well, as the Huskers posted 35 wins for the 14th time in the past 15 seasons, finishing with a 35-19 record and another trip to the NCAA Tournament.
