Palo Alto, Calif. ? After the No. 11 men’s and No. 18 women’s Nebraska track and field teams swept the team titles at the Nebraska Quad in Lincoln on Saturday, the teams’ attention turned to the University of Stanford where the NU distance squad was competing at the Payton Jordan Invitational. Of the nine runner competing, two set season bests and another four set personal bests.
The men’s and women’s 3,000-meter steeplechasers led the way with four regional-qualifying times, one season best and three personal bests. Sophomore David Adams was arguably the top performer as he took nearly four seconds off his previous-best time of 8:47.07 with a time of 8:43.79. Adams finished 15th overall and second among collegiate runners in a section filled with professionals, including two Olympians. The time moves Adams to No. 5 in Division I, as the Big 12 now has two of the top five steeplechasers in the country after Texas’ Jake Morse ran the No. 1 time in the county with an 8:34.57 in the same heat as Adams. Brian Parr also ran well on the men’s side, finishing sixth in section 2 with a personal-best time of 8:51.89, shattering his previous best of 8:56.86. The time is expected to move Parr from No. 73 in Division I, into the top 20.
