Stillwater, Okla. --- For the third straight match, the Nebraska men’s tennis team dropped a one-point decision to a Big 12 opponent after it lost to Oklahoma State, 4-3, on Tuesday, April 7 in Stillwater, Okla.? The loss dropped the Huskers' record to 16-6, with an 0-3 mark in Big 12 play, all decided by 4-3 margins.? Oklahoma State improves to 10-5 on the season, 1-2 in the Big 12.
Both Christopher Aumeuller (NU) and Benedikt Lindheim (NU) improved their Big 12 singles records to 3-0 on the season when they won at the No. 3 and 5 spots, respectively. Aumueller defeated Aleksey Bessonov (OSU) 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot, while his freshman counterpart took down Anton Bobytskyi (OSU) at the No. 5 spot.? After dropping the first set by the score of 6-0, Lindheim battled back to win the next two sets 6-3, 7-5, to capture the victory.? At the No. 4 spot, senior Hendrik Stahmer (NU) defeated Mikhail Trukshain (OSU) 6-4, 6-2, for his second Big 12 victory of the year.? At the No. 1 spot, junior David Bendheim (NU) fell to the nation’s No. 1-ranked player Oleksandr Nedovyesov (OSU) 6-1, 6-1.?
In doubles, Lindheim and Aumueller tallied the Huskers' only doubles victory on the day by defeating Trukshain and Bobystyi (OSU) 9-7 at the No. 2 spot.? Francois Van Impe and Stahmer (NU) fell to Igor Sobolta and Bessonov (OSU) 8-5 at the No. 3 spot, while Bendheim and Paar were defeated by Nedovyesov and Nathan Byrnes (OSU) 8-3 at the No. 1 spot.?
Head coach Kerry McDermott was disappointed with the play of his doubles teams after the match.
“It was probably the worst doubles we played all season," McDermott said. "This team is capable of winning every mach we play in the Big 12. We have to keep our heads up and keep out hearts strong and continue to get better.? We have to learn from this get ready for this weekend.”
The Huskers return to action with a pair of matches scheduled for this weekend. On Friday, April 10, NU will travel to College Station, Texas to take on the Texas A&M Aggies at 6 p.m.? The Huskers will then return home to play their last home match of the season against Texas Tech on Sunday, April 12, with first serve set for 1 p.m.
