Hulett Sprints to Weekly Honor

Lincoln ? Following three NCAA regional-qualifying times at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz., on Saturday, April 4, Nebraska junior Lukas Hulett was honored on Tuesday, April 7, as the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Male Athlete of the Week. Hulett is the first Husker honored during the 2009 outdoor season, joining 2009 indoor honorees Seth Burney (men’s pole vault) and Natalie Willer (women’s pole vault).

Individually, Hulett won the 200- and 400-meter dashes, posting regional-qualifying times of 21.18 and 46.87, respectively, with the 200-meter time a personal best. The Bellevue, Neb., native then teamed with Dax Danns, Kirkland Thornton and Scott Wims for the 4x100-meter relay, where they posted a regional-qualifying time of 39.80. Hulett ended the day by running the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay that finished runner-up to Wisconsin with a time of 3:12.99, trailing the Badgers’ time of 3:12.66.

Overall, Hulett contributed 34.5 points to the Huskers’ meet-high score of 365. The Huskers combined with the Kansas Jayhawks to form a Big 12 squad that won the meet with 531.5 points, downing the Big 10 duo of Penn State and Wisconsin (474) and the Pac-10 squad of Arizona and Washington (464.5).

Hulett and the rest of the Huskers will be in action at home this weekend at Ed Weir Stadium for the Nebraska Invitational. The one-day meet is set to start on Saturday, April 11, at 11 a.m. Check Huskers.com for more information and for live results during the meet.
