Lincoln ? Recently the Nebraska track and field team announced the addition of one more athlete to its 2009 recruiting class, adding Tekamah, Neb., thrower Annie Jackson. Jackson joins three other future Huskers that have already signed their letters of intent in early February, including Tommy Brinn (middle distance), Jordan Oddo (pole vault) and Anne Martin (multi-events).
Annie Jackson ? Throws: Tekamah, Neb. (Tekamah-Herman HS)
Annie Jackson enters her 2009 senior season at Tekamah-Herman High School as the defending Nebraska Class C state shot put champion, posting a school-record throw of 43-7 1/2 at the 2008 state meet. Jackson also holds the school record in the discus with a toss of 134-3 and is the most decorated women’s track and field athlete in school history with four state medals. A two-time defending East Husker Conference champion in the shot put, Jackson has also starred on the volleyball and basketball courts, earning unanimous First-Team All-East Husker Conference honors in each. A leader off the track, Jackson is a member of the National Honor Society.
“Annie is an outstanding multi-sport athlete excelling at a high level through high school in volleyball, basketball, and track and field,” NU Throws Coach Mark Colligan said. “Annie’s outstanding versatility and the lack of having had substantial annual preparation for her throwing events during the off season, makes her an outstanding prospect to develop in the Nebraska program. We are excited for Annie to add what appears to be a broad range of talents to our team and squad of throwers next year.”
