Huskers Head To San Antonio For Busy Weekend

    The No. 63 Nebraska men’s tennis team is on the road again this weekend after traveling to Bloomington, Ind., last weekend where they were able to collect two victories over No. 57 Indiana and GeorgiaState.  This weekend the Huskers will travel to San Antonio, Texas, for a trio of matches beginning on Friday, Feb. 13. NU will match up against No. 61 Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday, before taking on Marquette on Saturday, Feb. 14, and host Texas-San Antonio on Sunday, Feb. 15.  The Huskers are entering the middle of their 10-match road trip with an overall record of 3-1, with two of those victories coming over ranked opponents (No. 57 Indiana, No. 68 San Francisco).

Stahmer Propels Huskers Past Indiana

    Behind a strong effort from its top three singles players and a clutch performance from senior Hendrik Stahmer, the No. 73 Nebraska men’s tennis team was able upset No. 57 Indiana in the Huskers’ first match last weekend in Bloomington, Ind. In singles play, David Bendheim (NU), Calin Paar (NU) and Christopher Aumueller (NU) were all able to collect victories at the top three spots.  At the No. 1 slot, Bendheim defeated Lachlan Ferguson (IU) in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. Along with the win at No. 1, Paar beat Santiago Gruter (IU) 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot, while Aumueller was equally as impressive at the No. 3 spot, defeating Guy Kubi  (IU) 6-1, 6-0.  The match of the day came at the No. 5 spot, where Stahmer battled Will Kendall in the last match of the day, one that ultimately decided the match.  After losing the first set, Stahmer defeated Kendall 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 to take the last singles point and secure the Huskers’ victory.

Huskers Handle Panthers For Weekend Sweep

    Fresh of its upset of No. 57 Indiana on Saturday, the Nebraska men’s tennis team continued its hot play by beating GeorgiaState, 5-2, on Sunday at the IU Varsity Tennis Center.  The Huskers dropped the No. 1 spots in singles and doubles, but were still able to pull out the victory over the Panthers.  In singles play, sophomore Calin Paar (NU) got his first shot at the Huskers’ No. 1 singles spot, but was unable to collect a victory as he was defeated by Nejc Podkrajsek (GSU) 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. At the No. 2 spot, junior David Bendheim was dominant in his victory over Martin Shiskov (GSU) 6-0, 6-3. Francois Van Impe, Benedikt Lindheim and Renato Melo also garnered victories for the Huskers. Senior Hendrik Stahmer was unable to finish his match at the No. 4 spot, after retiring in the third set of his match. 

     In doubles play, the No. 17-ranked tandem of Bendheim and Paar (NU) was upset by Podkrajsek and Shiskov (GSU), 8-6, at the No. 1 spot.  Even with the loss at No. 1, NU was still able to win the doubles point with impressive play from the other two teams.  Stahmer and Van Impe (NU) defeated Trenton Spinks and Jackson Moore (GSU), 8-3, at the No. 2 spot, while Lindheim and Taylor Boney (NU) beat Lucas Thomaz and William Adeimy (GSU), 8-3, at the No. 3 spot

 

Huskers Make Move In Rankings

    Following the Huskers’ victories over GeorgiaState and No. 57 Indiana this past weekend, the Nebraska men’s tennis team has jumped 10 spots to No. 63 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s team poll released Tuesday, Feb. 10.  The Huskers have defeated two teams ranked in the top 75 this year (No. 68 San Francisco, No. 57 Indiana).

Scouting the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders

    No. 61 Texas A&M Corpus Christi enters this weekend battle tested after facing off against four ranked teams in its first four matches of the season.  The Islanders have overall record of 1-3, falling to No. 68 Radford, No. 42 New Mexico, and No. 10 Baylor. Their lone victory came over No. 44 Indiana, 4-3, in their second match of the season.  Corpus Chrisit’s top player is Mikhail Pavlov. Pavlov has an overall record of 1-3 at the the No. 1 singles spot.   

Scouting the Marquette Golden Eagles

    Coming out of the Big East Conference, the Marquette Golden Eagles will enter the weekend on a two-match losing skid, after winning their first four matches of the season by a score of 7-0 in each match.  The Golden Eagles have dropped two straight matches to Big Ten opponents, Wisconsin and Minnesota.  Playing in Marquette’s top spot is most likely senior Trent Hagan.  Hagan enters the weekend with an overall record of 2-2.  

Scouting the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners

    The Roadrunners from Texas-San Antonio enter this weekend with an overall record of 2-4, including a 5-2 victory over St. Edward’s in their last time on the court.  The Roadrunners’ top player is junior Rodigo Morgado.  Morgado has an overall record of 3-3 while playing in the No. 1 spot. Morgado was named to the first-team All-Southland Conference squad as a sophomore. 

On The Road Again...And Again.

    The Nebraska men’s tennis team will rack up its frequent flyer miles this spring as the first 10 matches on the Huskers’ schedule are on the road.  The Huskers will travel to the likes of Bloomington, Ind., San Antonio, Texas, Des Moines, Iowa, and Denver, Colo., before returning home.  The Huskers’ first home match is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, against WichitaState. The Huskers will also take on Bradley and UMKC that day in a triple-header at the NebraskaTennisCenter.
