Jeffries Fires Career High in NU Opener

Reno, Nev. - The Nebraska rifle team was defeated in its season opener by Nevada on Sunday, 4,651-4,563.

Junior Amanda Jeffries shot a career-high 593 in air rifle and freshman Katie Kostal scored an impressive 582 in her first collegiate competition. The Huskers finished with a 2,323 air rifle team score. Ryann McGough and Christine Costello led Nebraska in smallbore with 570 each, as the Huskers shot a 2,240 total.

Head Coach Morgan Hicks was disappointed with her team's score, but is optimistic the Huskers will rebound at their first home match this Friday against Army.

"I expect us to come away from this match as chalking it up to experience and moving on and preparing for our match against Army," Hicks said. "We will be ready and will shoot the scores we know we are capable of shooting."

The Huskers host both Air Force and Army this weekend at the NU Rifle Range. Friday's match against Army is at 9 a.m.
