Tulsa, Okla. - Three members of the Nebraska men’s tennis team were in action this weekend at the 2008 D’Novo All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The Huskers were competing in the pre-qualifying brackets which consisted of 256 players from around the nation. The Huskers were playing for a chance to move into the qualifying bracket which starts on Monday, Oct. 6, and runs through Wednesday, Oct. 8.
After a first-round bye, Francois Vam Impe was defeated by Brock Sakey (Central Florida) in a tough three-set match 2-6, 7-5 and 6-1 in Saturday’s second-round matchup. Christopher Aumueller and Benedikt Lindheim both competed in their first collegiate matches this weekend for the Huskers. Aumueller was defeated by Alex Cornelissen (Oregon) 6-4, 6-4 in his first match on Saturday. Lindheim was able to find a little more success against Tobias Fanselow (Old Dominion), defeating him 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, to pick up his first collegiate win. Lindheim then fell to Ravid Hazi (Arizona) 6-4, 6-2 in the third round.
Although they did not advance any players through the pre-qualifying matches, the Huskers will have two players competing in the qualifying round as David Bendheim and Calin Paar each earned an automatic bid into the qualifying round. Bendheim will match up against Johnny Parkes (New Mexico) at 8 a.m. Monday and Paar will face off against Michael Shabaz (Virginia) at 12:30 p.m. Shabaz defeated Paar 6-2, 7-6, at the Virginia Fall Classic earlier this fall.
