Huskers Drop Two in Alaska

The Nebraska rifle team dropped two matches this weekend in Fairbanks, Alaska to No. 3 Kentucky and No. 1 Alaska-Fairbanks. The Huskers (2-3) were outdone by Kentucky Saturday, 4,670-4,606. On Sunday, Nebraska lost 4,647-4,595 to the three-time defending champion Nanooks.

"We knew this was going to be a hard weekend, shooting against two of the top teams in the nation," Head Coach Morgan Hicks said. "We are having a hard time all shooting good on the same day."

Against Kentucky, Amanda Jeffries led Nebraska in both disciplines, shooting 587 in air rifle and 575 in smallbore. Ryann McGough added a 583 in air rifle and Christine Costello scored a 574 in smallbore.

Against Alaska-Fairbanks, McGough shot a personal-best 579 in smallbore, but the Huskers were unable to capitalize with Costello and Katie Kostal shooting below their season averages.

"We have a lot to work on, but at least we know what our weaknesses are and we are ready to crack down and work hard to fix things and get back on top," Hicks said.

The Huskers have one final match on the fall schedule, at Murray St. Nov. 9.
