Huskers Defeat Army in Home Opener

The Nebraska rifle team started its 2008 home slate with a 4,619-4,600 victory over Army Friday at the NU Rifle Range.

The Huskers, who improved to 1-1 on the year, got steady performances from Amanda Jeffries and Ryann McGough in the win. Jeffries scored a team-best 590 in air rifle and a 574 in smallbore to lead the Huskers overall with a 1,164 total. McGough recorded a 1,159, with a 583 and 576 in air rifle and smallbore, respectively.

Christine Costello led the Huskers in smallbore with a 579.

Stephen Scherer of Army led all competitors with a 589 in small bore. Army's Wesley Hess won the air rifle competition with a 592.
