Huskers Finish Productive Weekend at Virginia Classic

The Nebraska men’s tennis team capped off a productive weekend with one player advancing to the final day of competition at the University of Virginia Fall Classic last weekend. 

Francois Van Impe reached the finals of the back draw in the A-2 singles bracket after losing his first match of the tournament to Nicolas Delgado of Virginia Tech.  Van Impe was defeated by Grega Teraz (East Tennesse State) 6-4, 7-5 in the finals.

Along with Van Impe, several other Huskers experienced success on the weekend.  Calin Paar, who came into the tournament ranked No. 123 in the nation, reached the semifinals of the A-2 singles bracket by defeating Maksin Levanovich (Stetson) and Alex Das Izquierdo (Eastern Kentucky) before falling to Michael Shabaz of host Virginia in the semifinals.  Junior David Bendheim, who was the only Husker to compete in the A-1 singles bracket, lost in the quarterfinals of the back draw to Keziel Juneau (William & Mary) 6-3, 4-6, 5-10.

In the B singles bracket, Hendrik Stahmer reached the quarterfinals of the back draw and finished with a 1-2 record.  True freshman Andrew Freeman collected his first collegiate victory over William Lang (William & Mary) in the first round of the C singles back draw 3-6, 7-5, 10-5.
