Beijing ? Former Nebraska track and field hurdle standout Priscilla Lopes-Schliep advanced past the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles on Sunday night in Beijing (6:30 a.m. Central time). Lopes-Schliep finished second in her heat, coasting to a time of 12.75. She is expected to compete for a medal after winning a Grand Prix meet in Stockholm last month. Jamaica's Vonette Dixon won the heat in 12.69 while Josephine Nnkiruka Onyia (Spain) and Susanna Kallur (Sweden) posted the top time overall at 12.68.
Lopes-Schliep will now run in the semifinals at 6:48 a.m. (Central) Monday morning. The 2008 Games are her second Olympics, as she also competed at the 2004 Games in Athens. She failed to advance past the prelims.
