Huskers Finish Sixth at Big 12 Championships

Stillwater, Okla. - Three Huskers finished in the top 20, but Nebraska slipped to sixth place in the final team standings at the 2008 Big 12 Women's Golf Championships at Karsten Creek Golf Club on Sunday.

The Huskers closed the tournament with a 325 in the final round to finish at 968 over 54 holes on the 6,210-yard, par-72 layout at Karsten Creek. Oklahoma moved in front of NU into fifth place on the final day of competition with a 315 to end the tournament three shots in front of the Huskers at 965.

Senior Elli Brown was Nebraska's top individual finisher in the event, slipping into a tie for 12th with a final-round 83 to finish at 238. Sophomores Charlotte Wendner and Kate White joined Brown in the top 20. Wendner, a native of Bjarred, Sweden, managed an 81 on Sunday to close her first Big 12 Tournament appearance in 18th place at 241. White, a native of Waukegan, Ill., shot NU's best round with an 80 on Sunday to finish the tournament in a tie for 19th at 242.

JC Stevenson and Allison Stewart managed rounds of 82 on Sunday, as Stevenson finished in a tie for 33rd and Stewart closed in a tie for 47th.

"We played OK on the front nine but then we just couldn't seem to get anything going on the back," Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. "I think the course played really tough for us again today, and we lost a little confidence at some point and we just couldn't seem to get it back."

Oklahoma State (303-302-307-912) ran away with the team title on its home course, defeating second-place Texas A&M (315-304-320-939) by 27 strokes. The Cowgirls fired a 307 on Sunday, which was their worst round of the tournament. The Aggies also struggled to their worst round of the championships with a 320. Texas took third and Missouri earned a fourth-place finish.

OSU golfers swept the top three spots in the tournament with Jaclyn Sweeney claiming the individual title, while Cowgirl Karin Kinnerud took second and Amanda Johnson claimed third, as all five Cowgirls finished among the top 12 in the tournament.

Nebraska will find out on Monday if it has earned an NCAA Regional bid, when selections for the 2008 NCAA Championships are announced at 4 p.m.
