White Earns Top 25 Finish at "Mo" Morial

Bryan, Texas - Kate White produced a solid final round with a 79 to climb into a tie for 24th place to lead the Nebraska women's golf team to a 13th-place finish at the 15-team Texas A&M "Mo" Morial on Sunday.

White, a sophomore from Waukegan, Ill., managed the only top-25 finish of the tournament for the Huskers, as she finished at 245 over 54 holes with rounds of 83-83-79 on the 6,244-yard, par 72 layout at the Traditions Club course.

Senior Elli Brown added a 37th-place finish for the Huskers with a 249, while sophomore JC Stevenson managed a tie for 47th in the Husker lineup with a three-round total of 253. Redshirt freshman Sydney Sturdevant, playing as an individual outside of NU's lineup, added a fourth top-50 finish for the Huskers with a 255.

Sophomore Charlotte Wendner, playing in Nebraska's five-player lineup, tied for 66th with junior Megan Place, who was competing as an individual. Both Huskers closed with three-round totals of 265. Senior Allison Stewart rounded out the NU contingent in 71st place with a 266.

Michigan State won the team title with an impressive three-round total of 931, nine strokes ahead of second-place Denver (940). Tulsa added a third-place finish 25 strokes behind the Spartans at 956, while the hosts from Texas A&M settled for a tie for fourth with Kent State at 962 on the challenging layout.

Those five schools, which are all ranked among the top 35 in the nation, were the only teams to produce scores below 980 in the 15-team field that included nine top-50 programs. Nebraska battled its way to a three-round total of 1,010.

Nebraska will shoot for better results in a return trip to Texas next week when the Huskers travel to the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. The Huskers will tee off at the three-round event in Austin with 36 holes on Monday, March 17, beginning at 8 a.m. NU will close the two-day tournament on Tuesday, March 18.
