Four Huskers Finish in Top 25 at Mountain View

Tucson, Ariz. - JC Stevenson, Elli Brown, Allison Stewart and Mary Kate Bird all produced top-25 individual finishes to help the Nebraska women's golf team to a tie for sixth at the 17-team Mountain View Collegiate on Sunday.

The Huskers, who produced three solid rounds in the two-day tournament, closed with a 12-over-par 300 on the 6,126-yard layout at the Mountain View Golf Club in Arizona. Indiana won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 880, after firing Sunday's best round with a 291. San Jose State finished second at 889, while Texas Tech and Oklahoma closed in a tie for third at 891. Missouri took fifth at 892, while the Huskers tied with Louisville at 895.

Stevenson, a sophomore from Grand Island, Neb., closed a strong tournament with a four-over-par 76 on Sunday to finish the event with a six-over-par 222 in a tie for 13th place. Brown added a 75 on Sunday to close in a tie for 20th at 224, while Stewart added a 74 over the final 18 holes to finish in a tie for 25th at 225.

Although she did not play in Nebraska's lineup on Sunday, Bird produced the best round of the tournament for any Husker. The freshman scorched the course for a career-best two-under-par 70 to tie Stewart in 25th at 225.

Sophomore Kate White also put together a strong round for NU with a 75 on Sunday to close in a tie for 38th at 227, while sophomore Charlotte Wendner rounded out the Husker contingent with a final-round 79 to finish in a tie for 51st at 230.

Indiana's Lauren Harling won the individual title with an even-par 72 to finish the tournament at one-under-par 215. San Jose State's Erica Moston took second at 216 after managing a 76 on Sunday.

"We played another good, solid round on Sunday, so we put together three solid rounds in the tournament which should give us some nice things to build on as we continue on through the spring," Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. "We definitely saw some encouraging things and we will try to carry them on into our next tournament in Utah."

The Huskers departed Tucson for St. George, Utah, where they will participate in the practice round of the BYU Dixie Classic on Monday. Nebraska will take the course in competition in Utah with two rounds on Tuesday, followed by a final round in the 54-hole event on Wednesday.
