Huskers Lose Two in Texas

College Station, Texas / Austin, Texas - The Nebraska women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches in Texas on Friday and Saturday, losing to No. 32 Texas A&M 7-0 on Friday and No. 17 Texas 6-1 on Saturday. The Huskers lost their first road matches of the season and dropped to 13-3 overall, including 1-3 in the Big 12.

The Huskers went to College Station on Friday afternoon for a match with the Aggies. The 30th-ranked duo of Jana Albers and Imke Reimers earned their third Big 12 win and improved to 12-1 on the year with a victory over Texas A&M's Anna Blagodarova and Tiffany Clifford, 9-7. The Huskers couldn't take the doubles point however, as they lost at both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, giving the Aggies a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Nebraska couldn't get it going in singles play after losing the doubles point, losing all six matches. Ashley Finnegan, playing in her third match of the season, took A&M's Michelle Sammons to three sets, but ultimately fell short in the third.

NU tried to rebound the next day against another tough opponent, No. 17 Texas, in Austin on Saturday afternoon. Once again, the Huskers conceded the doubles point to the Longhorns, and were unable to recover in singles play. Albers and Reimers nearly won at No. 1 doubles again, but ended up losing in a tiebreaker.

Nebraska was able to get a point on the board in singles play, as freshman Jana Albers pulled off a three-set victory for her 13 singles win of the season, beating Stephanie Davison 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. The Huskers were very competitive in their matches, as Reimers went three sets at No. 1 singles, while Stephanie Evans nearly won both sets she played, losing 7-5, 7-6 (5) at No .4 singles.

With arguably its toughest stretch of the Big 12 season in the books, Nebraska looks to get back on track next weekend with two road matches next weekend at Oklahoma and at Oklahoma State. The Huskers return home on April 11 with a match against Missouri.
