Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team swept the Drake Bulldogs 7-0 on Friday at the Nebraska Tennis Center, pushing their record to 4-0. The Huskers have yet to lose a point this year, and earned their fourth straight shutout to start the season.
The Huskers got off to a fast start in doubles play, winning all three matches, including an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles by Maria Ring and Wiveca Swarting. The No. 42-ranked duo of Jana Albers and Imke Reimers won at No. 1 doubles 8-5, while the freshmen pair of Amber Chandronnait and Stephanie Evans won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Nebraska continued their dominance in singles play, as all six matches were won by NU in straight sets. Drake only managed to win 10 games in those six matches, and for the season the Huskers have won 22 of their 23 singles matches in straight sets.
Junior Maria Ring saw her first action of the year on the singles court, as she played Drake's Daria Zawislak at the No. 6 position, and Ring rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Albers (No. 3) and Evans (No. 4) also won by scores of 6-1, 6-0, while Reimers wound up with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Chandronnait won at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-0, while Swarting finished the Husker sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles.
