Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team earned its third straight sweep to open the season as they defeated the Colorado State Rams 7-0 on Sunday at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Huskers used a strong singles showing to take home the victory.
Nebraska got off to a good start, winning all three doubles matches to take home the doubles point. At No. 1 singles, NU's Imke Reimers and Jana Albers beat CSU's Lauren Strasburger and Hilary Tyler 8-4, breaking Tyler's streak of 11 straight doubles wins, dating back to last season. Maria Ring and Wiveca Swarting won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, and the freshmen duo of Amber Chandronnait and Stephanie Evans won 8-5 at No. 3.
The Huskers continued their dominance in singles play as well, as they won all six matches in straight sets. Through three team matches this season, NU has won 16 of its 17 singles matches in straight sets. Reimers was on top of her game in her match at No. 1 singles, overpowering CSU's Strasburger on the way to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Head Coach Scott Jacobson again used all four NU freshmen at the bottom of the singles lineup, as he did on Friday against Illinois State, and again the four newcomers responded with victories.
Nebraska hits the courts again with two home matches next weekend, on Friday against Drake and next Sunday against Wyoming.
