Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team moved to 10-0 on Friday after it defeated the Air Force Falcons 7-0 at the Nebraska Tennis Center. Air Force lost its fourth straight match and drops to 3-10 overall. The Huskers have been dominant in a record-setting fashion early this season. The 10-0 start is the best start in team history, while 9 of the 10 wins have been 7-0 sweeps, and the other a 6-1 victory.
The Huskers started the match with a bit of history, as senior Imke Reimers moved to second place on the all-time NU doubles wins list, earning her 69th career victory and her ninth this spring with an 8-0 victory with partner Jana Albers at No. 1 doubles. Maria Ring and Wiveca Swarting won their 10th doubles match of the spring as a pair with an 8-3 victory at No. 2, while freshmen Amber Chandronnait and Stephanie Evans rebounded from their first doubles loss of the season last week with an 8-5 win at No. 3.
Nebraska widened its lead to 3-0 after Reimers and Swarting finished their matches nearly simultaneously at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Reimers earned her third 6-0, 6-0 sweep of the year while Swarting nearly missed her fourth sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Reimers also moved into third place on the NU all-time singles wins list with 82. Albers clinched the match for Nebraska shortly after with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. Freshmen Abby Buxton, Chandronnait and Evans each earned wins at the bottom of the Husker lineup, with Evans having to go three sets for her win at No. 5 singles.
The Huskers play their last non-conference opponent of the season on Sunday as they take on Northern Iowa. NU hopes to improve on its record start to the season and record its 10th straight home shutout. The Huskers have their first home conference match next Saturday against No. 4 Baylor.
